Tips for Eating Healthy on the Run

By wendymiller, Posted: May 19, 2011

With summer just around the corner, graduations, the school year coming to a close, and the lure of summer activities, this time of year tends to be quite busy. Our friends at Luna Bar put together these tips for eating health on the run.

Life is busy and the last thing anyone wants to do is spend a lot of time thinking, shopping and preparing for meals. However, good daily nutrition does take a little planning, but it does not need to consume your entire day. Here are a few easy tips to help you meet your nutritional needs and nourish your active lifestyle:

  • ALWAYS eat breakfast! Two slices of whole grain toast with all-natural peanut butter, a piece of fruit and a glass of nonfat milk is a simple way to start energizing your day.
  • Keep your meals colorful. This means you're eating your fruits and vegetables, which contain good-for-you antioxidants and fiber.
  • Make a general plan for eating each day. Have an idea of what you'll be doing for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Be prepared--don't let hunger sneak up on you! Make sure to have a nutrient-dense snack, such as your favorite LUNA or LUNA Protein Bar (now "gluten free"), stashed in your purse or workout bag.
  • Keep it clean. Stick to whole grains, lean protein, nonfat/lowfat dairy, quality fats (i.e. avocado, nuts, nut butters, vegetable oils), and plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Choose organic whenever possible--it's better for your body and the environment.
Taking the time to plan your nutrition will enable you to enjoy a variety of delicious foods and maintain the energy you need to accomplish your goals each day.

Earth Day

By graham, Posted: April 22, 2011

April 22nd, Earth Day. Take a minute to reflect on the beauty and inspiration around us, and effect some small change for the betterment of the planet. If you're heading out in the mountains, take someone with you. If you can't, find some time to make a change or share the impressiveness of our environment with your kids, family, friends. Understanding and awe for the world around us brightens the day, and keeps a strong reminder of why we need to do our part to protect the world around us. So nice to wake up to snow in Seattle this morning. Maybe a early morning trek through Lincoln park? Not quite deep enough for snowshoes, but it sure would be pretty. With so much snow across the country this winter, where have you gone snowshoeing that you never thought you would?
